Makeup Removing

Everyone raves about micellaire water and bi-phase eye makeup remover, but which makeup remover do you really need and what s best for what? While I haven't tried every option on the market, I think I have a good idea of what product works best for what and hopefully that can give you a good idea of what product you need.

Bioderma (Micellaire Water) - This product comes in 3 sizes and 3 different formulations. Of the three I have only used the Sebium one targeted at acne prone skin, I've had this for over a year and I'm still not finished it thanks to the handy pump at the top that is both hygienic and prevents you from wasting product. I consider this to be a luxe face wipe. There's a reason it's a backstage favourite and that's because it reason makeup easily and leaves no noticeable residue on your face. I prefer to use this when I want to remove my makeup as soon as I've come home but don't want to wash my face right away. Additionally I  love using this product to correct makeup and don't want an oily eyelid. Because this product is so gentle, it isn't the best at removing waterproof makeup without a lot of tugging and eyeliner, especially in the tightline can be difficult to remove. However it is gentle on the eyes and doesn't cause any stinging

The Bodyshop Camomille Waterproof Makeup Remover (Bi-phase) - This product has two layers, an oil layer and a water layer which need to be mixed before use. I'm assuming the water layer is meant to be similar to the micellaire water, while the oil layer easily breaks down waterproof makeup. As such, this is the step up from the micellaire and so if you are someone who wears waterproof mascara everyday, this is probably the better product for you, at least for your eyes. Because there is an oil element it is best to wash your face after using it, which is the compromise you get with this type of product.

Baby Oil - Now when you go out at night it can be hard to decide if you want to wash your face or go straight to sleep and wake up with crooked eyelashes and a black pillow. If you really can't be bothered, something like the micellaire water is a great option because you won't need to wash your face after. If you are someone who is truly devoted to their skincare regime, this type of product is amazing at taking off smokey eye makeup in one swipe. This of course is pure oil so you need to wash your face immediately and take care to get all the oil off. Whenever my friends used to ask what I used as a makeup remover, it always used to be this but I've yet to find someone who actually liked my recommendation (although I wonder now that oil cleansers are all the rage). I started using this when I was younger and I figure skated and loved how easily it took off lipstick, mascara and as much gold, glittery eyeshadow I could fit on my eyes! While this isn't an everyday option for most people, its a good product to keep under the sink just in case and isn't a product that going to break the bank.

While the micellaire water is very multipurpose, I don't think it's a product you need to shell out for. I'm not sure, in Canada, we have any more affordable options (maybe a L'oreal) but even then you can buy a smaller bottle easily at Shopper's Drugmart. So now I'd like to pause and say that there are a million products not readily available in Canada and yet Bioderma, which is hard to get everywhere but France, is a breeze in Canada!  In conclusion I think its handy to have a bit around, but for actual full face makeup removing the bi-phase is your better option and these formulas are available in so many price points and from so many brands. And baby oil, I think it's really handy and haters gonna hate.
